Privacy Policy
Effective 26 August 2026 · applies to the Shelve browser extension
Shelve is built so that we cannot see your data. There is no Shelve server, no account, and no analytics or tracking of any kind. This page describes exactly what data the extension touches and where it goes.
What Shelve processes, and where it goes
- Tab titles and URLs. When you run an AI action (organize, command bar, shelving a group), the titles and URLs of your open tabs are sent directly from your browser to the AI provider you configured — OpenAI, Anthropic, Google Gemini, or your own local Ollama server. They are never sent to us, because there is no us to send them to.
- Page snippets (optional). If — and only if — you grant the optional page-access permission, Shelve may read a short text snippet from a page to classify an ambiguous tab or to write a shelving brief. Declining this permission leaves title-and-URL organization fully functional. Each AI feature asks you to acknowledge its data use once, before its first request.
- Your API keys. Stored in
chrome.storage.local on your machine, sent only to the matching provider as authentication. Never synced, never transmitted elsewhere.
- Settings, shelved groups, and usage stats. Stored locally in your browser. The stats card (tabs sorted, streak) is computed and kept entirely on your device.
What Shelve never does
- No data is collected, stored, or seen by the developer.
- No analytics, telemetry, fingerprinting, or advertising identifiers.
- No sale or transfer of user data to anyone.
- Nothing from incognito windows is ever saved: shelving is disabled there by design, because extension storage is shared with regular browsing.
Third parties
The only third parties that receive data are the AI providers you explicitly select, under their own privacy policies: OpenAI, Anthropic, and Google. If you use Ollama, requests stay on your own machine or server.
Chrome Web Store disclosures
Shelve's use of information received from Google APIs adheres to the Chrome Web Store User Data Policy, including its Limited Use requirements. Data described above is used solely to provide the extension's single purpose — organizing and managing your tabs — and for no other purpose.
